Planet Mouret — Episode One — Hyperacusis
February 2nd, 2012 | by admin |
A view inside the world of someone with high-functioning autism … The very first episode! Make sure your volume is turned right up! (** If you have an ASD, you might want to have your finger on the volume control in case you find it too overwhelming **) This episode is about hyperacusis – hyperacusis is a hearing impairment, it means that you hear things differently to other people. The way I process sounds is totally different to the way a neuro-typical (or non-autistic) person experiences sound. To me, I perceive sounds very loudly, everything is magnified, someone speaking quietly will sound as though they are shouting. Things become blurred and sounds mix together. I cannot filter sounds, things all merge together, the background sound and the foreground sound… it is a very difficult way to experience the sense of sound. Thanks for making this video. I too have Hyperacusis and lots of other things and its a pretty hard thing to deal with. I also I guess unfortunately always had a strong passion for music and recorded a lot of songs, almost in defiance of what I have. The pain is always there but I wont ever let it defeat me. I’ll have to try to do something with the inspiration provided by watching this video though, thankyou once again.

Wow dude, GREAT VIDEO! Very accurate. Let me ask y’all who have hyperacusis something, along with hating loud noises and bangs and stuff, do y’all have these weird moment of extreme happiness? Sometimes if i hear rustling leaves or gently crinkling plastic wrapping i will get the weird, (yet wonderful) feeling of intense bliss. It is one of the best feelings in the world and i hope that those who have this condition get this great side effect (if it is related). Peace!

excellent video. this is a great way to explain it to people who dont know about it instead of sending them to google and reading, they can just watch a video and learn what we go through

Hi, I have hyperacusis as a primary dx and your video is the first one that actually “sounds” like hyperacusis. (and actually very accurate in terms of my day to day life..) I tried to make one, but I couldn’t. Thank you. I am getting so tired of people telling me they feel for me and “understand”, even well-meaning, they have no idea. Maybe now, they will – from the outside, Thank you.

Fantastic video! I’ve never understood the way my brother hears things, he’s also autistic and complains about the loudness constantly. It is amazing to finally have some idea what he must live through each day. Thanks.

Mouret, what a brilliant video. Thankyou so much. Like other people have said on ASDF there is only so much that books (and dr’s) can explain.
